The Directions Research Team had a desire to introduce automation, data analysis, and data warehousing into their organization and struggled with a key component of their pipeline. Customer specifications were developed using an email and Word doc-heavy workflow that varied by project management team.
Mission Data proposed a web-based specification authoring tool. It streamlines and standardizes the authoring process, provides a centralized secure archive of specs, and delivers outputs of the specifications in several formats. Directions Research clients can still receive Word documents, and downstream departments now receive automatic conversions of the spec in XML suitable for internal tooling. The new data warehouse receives a structured copy of the spec in a JSON format that is easy to analyze.
