The Center for Nonprofit Excellence provides consulting, leadership development, and various learning opportunities for non-profit sector organizations. CNPE’s 400+ members are non-profits located primarily in the Greater Louisville area. CNPE’s ‘customers’ within the member organization are the paid staff, volunteers and board members.
Engaging non-profit organizations
CNPE wanted to streamline its business’ administrative processes while enhancing the services to its membership community including consultation, research, and education. Additionally, CNPE wanted to create and engage the non-profit organizations it supports into a cogent community that is able to easily and transparently collaborate with one another so as to jointly contribute to each others’ missions. CNPE was also implementing a new data management and customer relationship management solution, Salesforce.com, and wanted to integrate this Software-as-a-Service offering as the foundation for all customer data and interactions.
Solution scope
Mission Data was selected to design, architect, and develop a new custom solution. Some of the member-oriented functionality implemented includes support of tiered membership subscription levels, member self-administration, secured member-to-member online forums, interactive organizational self-assessment and action plan, online training and seminar registration system, and online common grant application tool and database.
For CNPE itself the solution included integration into the functionality of Salesforce.com. This provided access to robust capabilities in the areas of account administration, establishment of standard and efficient member interaction processes, and a common master repository on all transactions and membership data.
Mission Data services involved in the project include design, process engineering, technology architecture strategy, systems development using Ruby on Rails, data migration, and application integration. A Radiant-based content management system was customized to deliver many of the unique content and administrative needs.
The launch of the new site has enabled CNPE to gain better control over its membership information and communications as well as offer services to build a more engaged member-to-member and member-to-faculty community. Mission Data is providing application management services which include hosting on a dedicated virtual server platform, maintenance of existing functionality, and the planning and development of future functionality such as member forums, a grant writer exchange, and helping members find other members with similar interests and needs.
